Kubernetes Engineer

Tyto Athene is searching for a Kubernetes Engineer. In this position you will be assigned to support the US Space Force’s Space Systems Command, Operational Command and Control Acquisition Delta, known as Kobayashi Maru. Kobayashi Maru is responsible for continuously delivering impactful software for space operations. The program office’s mission includes the development and deployment of software for space defense, space domain awareness, and enabling data services.

Responsibilities:

• You will be responsible for leveraging Kubernetes technology to deliver, install, upgrade, patch and maintain highly reliable and resilient solutions for deploying and hosting current and future tools and services needed to develop, test, secure, and ship software applications to production.
• You will be expected to perform within an Agile framework including conducting daily stand up, welcome feedback often, sprint/iteration planning, duration planning, retrospectives, executing from the product backlog and roadmap, meeting performance metrics, and reporting on progress and blockers.
• You will be responsible for securing and configuring containerized services orchestrated with Kubernetes, and its underlying environment.
• You will be responsible for tuning Kubernetes performance and identifying problems by using service and traffic metrics by establishing monitoring and alerting dashboards.
• You will be the lead for the lifecycle management of all containerized services used in the development of Kobayashi Maru software.
• You will be the lead for troubleshooting containerized-services and publishing root cause analysis (RCAs) and postmortems with the larger portfolio.
• You will establish Service Level Objectives and other Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) related metrics.
• You will manage the north-south and east-west network traffic to ensure all container-based critical services are maintained.
• You will ensure the Kubernetes environment is running as it should, properly patched and configured, has sufficient resources to run the required applications, and can scale as needed without being overprovisioned.
• With automation and an ‘everything as code’ mentality, you will design, secure, deploy, and manage the Kubernetes environment required to support 14 software product teams and thousands of users across the test, IL4 development, IL6 staging/production, and higher classification level stagging/production environments.

Required:

• Minimum 10 years of professional experience as a Kubernetes Engineer, successfully designing and building distributed systems for mid to large enterprises, including two years of SRE experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, STEM, or IT from an accredited institution
• Possession of a current Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD), Kubernetes and Cloud Native Associate (KCNA) certification, or equivalent

• Security + if privileged access is required for the role

• One of the following or industry recognized equivalent certifications relevant to assigned position/function: Cloud Solutions Architect, CSSP, DevOps Expert, CKAD, Cloud Security, Cloud Admin, CCNA, Network +, or SRE Foundation certification as applicable

Clearance: 

• Must be eligible for a Top-Secret SCI clearance

Location:

• This is not a remote or hybrid role – you will work 100% on-site daily in a SCIF at 2424 Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs, CO.

Compensation:

• Compensation is unique to each candidate and relative to the skills and experience they bring to the position. The salary range for this position is typically between $170,000-$175,000. This does not guarantee a specific salary as compensation is based upon multiple factors such as education, experience, certifications, and other requirements, and may fall outside of the above-stated range.
